AUBURN — Lois “Lolly” Haskell Field, 79, died Feb. 4, at the Hospice House, after a short overnight stay. Her life was extended by more than seven years under the exceptional care of doctors Maria Ikossi, Amir Modaressi, Mahesh Pandy and the staff at both CMMC and St. Mary’s Hospitals. In her final days, Lois received most wonderful care from the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice team.

Lois was born Feb. 12, 1931, at CMG Hospital in Lewiston to Lewis W. Haskell III and Marion (Beliveau) Haskell. Among her fondest memories were living with several generations of Haskells (on Harvard Street in Auburn) and attending the Advent Christian Campgrounds in Mechanic Falls and Belgrade. She was an active and exuberant child and spent her days visiting grandparents and neighbors in the quest for candy and cookies. In her teen years, she became a good skier, archer, skater and a good shot with the rifle. Lois loved fly-fishing at her family camp in Kennebago. She flew in an open bi-plane and sailed an ice boat with her father, “Tick” on Lake Auburn.

Lois attended Edward Little High School, Class of 1948, and the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She enjoyed being a cheerleader and a member of the girls’ ski team. She married her high school classmate, Paul Field, on Jan. 27, 1952.

Lois was a wonderful homemaker and mother and an active church worker, having served as teacher, deacon and trustee. During her life, Lois spent time tutoring inmates, assisting with church fairs and ran a church food bank. She participated in Neighborhood Bible Study for many years. Paul and Lois’ family lived in Maine, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Alaska. After raising her children, Lois worked as a bank teller and as a real estate agent at Paul E. B. Field Associates, Inc. in Scarsdale, N.Y. After retirement, she worked as a certified nursing assistant in hospital long-term care in Alaska.

Lois was an avid gardener, creating an extensive perennial garden at her home in Homer, Alaska. She was a great lover of dogs and horses (especially pulling horses). She and Paul enjoyed traveling, including trips to the Caribbean Islands, Las Vegas, England, Scotland and wilderness camping in Alaska. She loved collecting antiques and attending circuses, craft fairs, Maine country fairs, Broadway shows and baseball games (Red Sox and Mets). She loved the Olympics and regularly attended U.S. Open Tennis matches in New York City.

Lois is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Stephen Haskell Field and Andrew Paul Field of Alaska, and Ruth Field Howe and husband, Rufus Scott Howe, of Brentwood, Tenn.; and her grandchildren, Christopher Paul Howe and his wife, Kaitlin E. Doherty, of Toronto, Canada, Army Spc. Gregory Scott Howe of Niceville, Fla., and Mary Kate Field of Homer, Alaska.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Ruth Haskell Lange.
