READFIELD — A Readfield man who became subject of a manhunt after the discovery of a body in a burned-out home he’d been living in was arrested Thursday in Massachusetts, police said.

David Silva Jr., 32, of Readfield, surrendered to a state police tactical team that surrounded a home in Carver, Mass., where he faced fugitive from justice charge pending extradition to face charges of murder, robbery and arson in Maine, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Silva was one of five people living in the house that burned early Wednesday. It was engulfed in flames by the time the first firefighters arrived.

As of Thursday, police had accounted for everyone living in the house except Robert Orr, one of the homeowners, McCausland said. The body recovered from the home was burned beyond recognition, so DNA tests will be used to determine if it was Orr’s body, or someone else’s, he said.

The investigation moved from Maine to Massachusetts after a pickup truck registered to Orr was found Wednesday evening in Marshfield, Mass., along with Orr’s dog, McCausland said. Lindsay Spence, an occupant of the home who was traveling with Silva, was not arrested, he said.

Living in the Readfield home at the time of the fire were Robert and Janet Orr and a relative of the Orrs, as well as Silva and Spence, McCausand said.

Silva will be brought to Wareham District Court, most likely on Friday, to be arraigned as a fugitive from justice, said David Procopio, a Massachusetts State Police spokesman.
