CANTON — Selectmen on Thursday night discussed the cost of insulating and heating the waste transfer station, which houses a truck and a Porta Potti, but made no decision.

Selectman Shane Gallant said he got two estimates on insulating part or all of the building. The estimate for insulating was nearly $5,000.

Selectman Donald Hutchins said he didn’t think this is the time to spend the money.

Gallant said the truck would suffer less from the frigid temperatures if the building had heat. He also said it would be more comfortable for station workers to have heat in the Porta Potti.

In another matter, Chris Dailey asked why the town couldn’t have its meetings televised on the access channel and volunteered to get a petition to do so.

Rob Walker said he would get information on how much it would cost to set up the program.

The board voted to take the property of Erwin Plourde for unpaid back taxes. The town had set up mortgage agreements with people who were behind in payments so they could reclaim their property. According to Town Administrator Kathy Hutchins, everyone else who signed agreements kept up payments.

Looking ahead to elections, Hutchins reported there are six people running for two selectmen’s positions. They are incumbents Scott Kilbreth and Donna Hebert, and Robert Walker, Jason Vaughan, Lindsey Hayes and former Selectman Lisa Cummings.

Three people are running for three seats on the Planning Board: Tricia Blanchard, Kathleen Hutchins and Jeffrey Cavanaugh.

Hutchins reported that no one has taken out papers for the two positions on the Budget Committee.

Elections will be held March 11 and the annual town meeting on March 12.

On Tuesday, Feb. 15, Patriot Renewables will be at the Canton Municipal Building at 6 p.m. to discuss the wind power project planned for Canton Mountain. Information about the project will be presented.
