OXFORD — Free tax return help for households with under $50,000 income is available at the Child Health Center, Route 26, through the end of March.
The program is made possible by the new Oxford County Cash Coalition, comprised of the United Way of Oxford County, Community Concepts, Region 9 Adult Education, Healthy Oxford Hills, the IRS, University of Southern Maine and AARP, and it is funded through small grants. The tax preparers are volunteers trained by the IRS.
Residents might also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal tax benefit for people who work and make less than $48,362 a year. If eligible, filing a 2010 tax return could result in receiving a tax credit ranging from $457 to $5,666.
Appointments are available for Saturday mornings and Monday evenings through the end of March. Call 364-2012 for appointments. Electronic filing is available.
The AARP tax program also provides free tax help at the Norway Memorial Library. Call 743-7459 for appointments.
