Umpiring clinics offered

AUBURN — The Central Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires (CMBABU) will be holding rules clinic for anyone interested in becoming a certified umpire. The CMBABU covers Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Oxford, Franklin, and parts of Cumberland counties. Levels of play include high school, junior high school, American Legion, Babe Ruth, Senior Baseball (men’s league), and Cal Ripken. Veteran umpires are encouraged to attend as well to brush up on the rules.

The clinics will be held at Edward Little High School at 6 p.m. Feb. 28, March 3, March 7 and March 10. The test will be given March 13. Sessions will last two hours. Rule books and case books will be made available at a cost of $8 each.

If you are 17 years of age or older and enjoy baseball, this is a great way to stay involved in the game while getting paid. Typical game fees are $50 to $75.

Renegades’ open house

GORHAM — The Maine Renegades will be hosting three free “Open House” program skates for interested hocckey players (2011-2012 prospects; birth years 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998 and 1997). Dates are Tuesday, Feb. 22, Tuesday, March 8 and Friday, March 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at University of Southern Maine Ice Arena.
