PORTLAND — Leon Errington entered Heaven’s gates on Tuesday, Feb 15, after more than a 40-year journey with the struggle of MS.

He was born in Mexico, June 3, 1926, to Walter and Ruth (Horne) Errington and was educated in Mexico and Saugus, Mass., schools. In 1944, he entered the Navy and served on the USS Lake Champlain.

He married Beverly Richardson in July 1949. She was the love of his life and cared for him for many years so that he could live at home.

He worked for Community Oil in Rumford and Chevron in Dover, N.H., and Portland, until his early retirement due to his illness. He loved to tinker on all manner of mechanical things and could fix almost anything.

He and his wife collected and repaired clocks. One of his favorite places was the camp in Weld on Webb Lake, which he helped build with his father when he was only eight. They floated the wood to the camp site on a raft.

He had his pilot’s license, master burnerman’s license and received his high school diploma from North Atlantic Regional High School in 2002, with a standing ovation.
