WATERFORD — The Waterford Congregational Church on Plummer Hill has called Pastor Kim Marie to serve as its settled pastor.

Marie served as acting pastor in December and January when the Rev. Anita White retired, then the congregation voted unanimously to call Marie as its settled pastor.

She brings with her a varied background in study, travel and service. She was born in Minnesota and graduated from St. Olaf College and later Luther Seminary in St. Paul. After completing an internship with Haitian migrant workers in Florida, Marie pursued doctoral studies in theology at the University of Munster in Germany.

Marie broke off her studies to marry and raise a family. The family moved to Switzerland, where her husband was the pastor of the Reformed Church in Frick. They raised three children and resided in Switzerland for 15 years.

The family then moved to Maine where Marie and her husband co-pastored a church in South Paris. That was her last call before coming to the Waterford Congregational Church and the Sweden Community Church.

The Waterford Congregational Church welcomes visitors and people from the area and beyond. Marie believes that “churches should be a resource not only to their membership, but to the community-at-large.”

All are invited to meet the new pastor. Sunday service starts at 9:30 a.m. and child care is available. For more information, call the church at 583-6381 or the pastor at 925-2526.
