George Lopez plays the new Boston grand piano at the Franco-American Heritage Center’s Heritage Hall in Lewiston on Friday. The just-under-6-foot piano is the baby brother to the 9-foot Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand piano that serves the performance hall upstairs. An anonymous friend of the center provided the funding to purchase the Boston GP-178 PE piano in December 2010. The instrument will provide musicians a place to warm up and will be used for the numerous receptions that the Heritage Hall hosts throughout the year. Lopez, the artist in residence at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, will perform at the Franco center Saturday at 7:30 p.m. To see and hear Lopez play the new piano, go to sunjournal.com/piano.
