AUBURN — A Sabattus man was injured Friday afternoon when his car and a tractor-trailer collided on Washington Street at Poland Spring Road.

Gregory S. Hall, 41, suffered a compound fracture to one leg and both of his ankles were broken when his Dodge Neon and the tractor-trailer collided at about 11:30 a.m. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and information on his condition was not released.

According to a police report, Hall was headed south on Washington Street when Brian Cannon, 32, of Middleborough, Mass., turned a northbound 1996 Kenworth left onto Poland Spring Road.

Cannon was examined at the scene for cuts and scrapes.

Phil Nadeau, Lewiston’s deputy city administrator, was driving on Washington Street when the accident occurred. He said several motorists stopped to help the drivers.

“It was bad,” Nadeau, who stopped to direct traffic before police arrived, said. “A couple of good Samaritans stopped to help and staunched the bleeding” of the injured man.

Cannon was driving for J.P. Noonan company of Hooksett, N.H.

Auburn police were continuing to investigate the crash later Friday.
