RUMFORD — Plans are under way by the Rumford Eagles to hold a debut bicycle rodeo at the Mountain Valley Kids Fest set for Saturday, May 7.

Rumford Falls Aerie 1248 will host a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the Eagles Bingo Hall to discuss plans for the annual Child Advocacy Day event.

“This year we are looking to expand our offerings to include more games and entertainment to benefit the health and well-being of our youths,” Fred Allen of the Eagles stated in a Tuesday morning report.

“We are looking to offer a bicycle rodeo this year that includes bicycle safety and bicycle checks.”

Other activities include an interactive 911 phone tutor with the Rumford Fire Department, child identification with the Rumford Police Department, water and gun safety, health, first-aid and other topics that help town youngsters.

The event also benefits local youth groups, Allen said.

There will be tables set up for donated raffles’ items, raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets and other fundraisers. A benefit dance featuring the Hooligans will be held in the evening.

Participating groups in the past have included: the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Area Youth Football, Area Youth Cheerleaders, Junior Rifle Club, Greater Rumford Community Center and Mexico Recreation Department.

Allen said that all money raised at the Kids Fest is equally divided among participating groups.

“A representative from any group that would like to participate should make an attempt to make this meeting” on March 3, he said.

People interested in sharing ideas, setting up a booth or helping out are encouraged to attend the meeting or contact Allen at 739-9798.
