LEWISTON — La Paresseux Snowshoe Club of Rumford will host the 103rd International Snowshoe Championship in Lewiston Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25, 26 and 27.

The Championship Committee has been making plans and snowshoers will attend from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Quebec and Ontario, Canada, and Maine.

The weekend will start with registration from 2 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, with an opening ceremony at 8 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Ramada Inn followed by the Coronation Ball at 10 p.m. when a king, queen, prince and princess of the championship will be crowned.

Snowshoe races will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the armory on Central Avenue. There will be a break for lunch at noon and the races will continue at 1:30 p.m.

A parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn. Clubs will compete for plaques and trophies. The parade will be followed by a dance at the Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom, with music by Noel Palmer and Don Levesque Band.

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday a brunch will be held for all who registered for the championship in the Grand Ballroom, followed by presentation of awards for the weekend events.

Le Paresseux Club of Rumford is also celebrating its 83rd year as a snowshoe club.
