LEWISTON — John S. Parsons, 79, of 525 Minot Ave., Auburn, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Central Maine Medical Center with family at his side.
He was born in Auburn, Sept. 7, 1931, a son of George F. and Luella S.E. (Small) Parsons. John was educated in Auburn schools, and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1949. He remained a lifelong resident of this community. On Aug. 20, 1960, he married the former Mary E. Eustis in Winthrop.
John worked with his father in the family grain business Parsons Brothers after high school, followed by years managing the grain mill at Maine Milling. Mr. Parsons ended his career with more than 20 years working in the Planning and Development Office at the City of Auburn.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn, and was a Mason, member of Tranquil Lodge 29. Among John’s favorite enjoyments was putting together model air planes, and a keen interest in antique autos. He still has a 1958 Studebaker which he continued to enjoy. But most of all, he enjoyed spending quality times with his family, children and grandchildren, and summer vacations with the extended family at Bear Pond.
He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Parsons of Auburn; his daughter, JoAnne Campbell and husband, Tom, of Auburn; his two sons, Daniel Parsons and wife, Debra, of Auburn and James Parsons and wife, Pamela, of Alamo, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell, Kimberly Campbell, Craig Parsons and wife, Brianna and Daniel Parsons and fiancee, Whitney Farland; three sisters, Jane Norris of Auburn, Georgia Eustis of Florida, and Florence Hansen of Springvale; and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, George and Luella Parsons.
