FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington Undergraduate Research Council has recognized 13 UMF students as fall 2010 Michael D. Wilson Research Scholars and Fellows.

Local students include John Leso, Farmington; Drew McLaren, Harrison; Ashley Simpson, Farmington; and Heustis Whiteside, Farmington.

Leso is a senior majoring in biology. He is investigating the effects of excess oxygen in body tissues on muscle fiber composition in the neonatal rat diaphragm.

McLaren, a junior majoring in history, is exploring the topic of Joshua Chamberlain and the Maine Gubernatorial election of 1879.

Simpson is a senior with a double major in history and psychology. Simpson is investigating the beginnings of film and propaganda through motion pictures in the Spanish American War.

Whiteside, a senior majoring in psychology, is examining observers’ hindsight bias and reactions to victims’ characteristics in the evaluation of bullying victims.
