PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Dozens of cars have been reported off the road as a major winter storm brings heavy snow and gusty winds across Maine.

The National Weather Service says Friday’s storm will drop between 4 and 14 inches of snow, with sleet and rain mixing in some coastal areas.

Maine State Police say dozens of cars have been reported sliding off the Maine Turnpike, Interstate 295 and Interstate 95. The most serious accident was in York, where a man was critically injured when his pickup truck overturned on the Maine Turnpike.

Police say a state police cruiser was struck on the turnpike in Portland when another car slid into the rear of the cruiser while the trooper was out of the car investigating a crash. Nobody was injured.
