LEWISTON — JimmyJo & the Jumbol’ayuhs will fill Heritage Hall at the Franco-American Heritage Center with lively two-steps and waltzes for Mardi Gras in L/A, an evening of music, spirits and Cajun cuisine.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8.
Making up the Phippsburg-based Jumbol’ayuhs are Jim Joseph on accordion, second fiddle and vocals; Pam Weeks, lead fiddle and vocals; Bill Olson, guitar; Elna Joseph, bass; and Keith Garovoy, percussion. Band members will provide brief instruction on the Cajun two-step.
For this Fat Tuesday party, the kitchen will serve traditional Cajun food, including jumbalaya, ratatouille, truffled bourbon mashed sweet potatoes and King Cake. Also known as Twelfth Night Cake, this cake is actually a sweetened yeast bread, usually baked in a ring shape. The cake is frosted with gold, green and purple icing representing power, faith and justice, respectively. These traditional colors date back to 1872. They were taken from a prominent parade group, called a krewe. Although this cake is colorful and tasty, the real fun hides within the cake. Spirits for the evening will be served at a cash bar.
Partygoers are urged to dress in costume and to make a mask, if they desire.
For tickets, $22, call 689-2000 or visit www.francocenter.org.
