During the past several weeks, I have read letters defending the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. In its defense, I have read about women’s rights, health care and abortion as a legitimate parenting option.

There is a fear among pro-abortion groups concerning legislation being proposed to cut funding to abortion providers. To that, I say, thank God.

The grave mistake that the Supreme Court made 38 years ago legalized murder, plain and simple. It is appalling that a civilized society can allow its most defenseless citizens (50 million and counting) to be murdered under the guise of a parenting option.

Women are being misled and told that abortion is a safe procedure when, in fact, studies show otherwise. The website Abortionfacts.com shows alarming statistics about higher rates of breast cancer, miscarriages and sterility, not to mention the psychological effects on women after an abortion.

Most importantly, people must face the moral implications of abortion. I am not talking about removing a tumor or a cyst, but a human being. As a nation with a high percentage of people who define themselves as Christians, it is time to walk the walk and work toward ending the horrible practice.

Children are creations of almighty God, not mistakes or burdens. Psalm 127, verse 3, reads appropriately: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.”
