MINOT — Municipal elections will be held Friday, March 4, to elect one selectman and one member of the school committee, both for three-year terms.

Two residents are vying for a seat on the RSU16 School Committee, with incumbent Annette Hemond-Annance being challenged by Scott Tiner.

Hemond-Annance, who is just completing her first term on the School Committee, grew up in Minot and is the first committee member to have graduated from Poland Regional High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern Maine and is currently working on her master’s degree.

She and her husband, John have two children, ages 3 and 4, with the oldest attending prekindergarten at the Poland Community School.

Hemond-Annance works for family business enterprises.

“I’m just a normal Minot person who wants the best for my kids and all the other kids in town. We have made some serious progress in our district, and I am proud to be part of it,”Annance-Hemond said.

Scott Tiner grew up in Lewiston, graduated from Lewiston High School and received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Boston University.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have lived in Minot for five years and have two children, Christopher and Madeleine, who attend the Minot Consolidated School, in the second and fourth grades, respectively.

Tiner is assistant director of user services at Bates College, responsible for the design of technology-equipped classrooms. Before joining the staff at Bates five years ago, he helped set up the computer network in the Oxford Hills school system.

“We chose to live in Minot for its fine school. Programs like art, music and physical education need to be provided for our children, and I will be a strong advocate for them,” Tiner said.

Selectman Eda Tripp is running unopposed for another three-year term on the board.

Polls will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office.
