Last week’s results:

Score one for the Farmers’ Almanac.

Given choices of wintry weather, rain and spring-like temperatures, Stormy chose rain. The Almanac forecast snow. And storms on Feb. 25 and 28 both dropped several inches of heavy, wet snow.

This weekend will be a great time to:

The choices: 1) Head to the slopes. Snow is coming. 2) Go to the beach. Temperatures could hit 70 in some spots. 2) Stay inside. We’re talking torrential downpours here.

The food: Dog food.

The Farmers’ Almanac says: Clearing and unseasonably mild. Temps could hit 70.

Stormy says: Start for the slopes; it’s going to snow.

Stormy’s Furcast is a winter-long series testing the weather predictions of the good-natured folks at the nearly 200-year-old Farmers’ Almanac against an equally good-natured fox who lives at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. The almanac is based on science and secret formulas. The fox makes her pick choosing from three piles of food, appropriately labeled. Each week, a new question and the previous week’s results. May the best forecaster, or furcaster, win.
