LEWISTON — The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) has received 480 survey responses from grade seven and eight students at Lewiston Middle School and St. Dom’s Academy. LYAC, in an effort to encourage better attitudes about school and raise aspirations, asked the question, “What motivates you to do well in school?”

From now until LYAC’s next meeting on Wednesday, March 2,  members will review survey responses and each select 10 “stand-outs” before discussing those selected.

LYAC will plan a special time of recognition for the students whose responses are chosen, and each will receive a prize package.

As part of the package, LYAC members are contacting 24 post-secondary institutions in Maine to request a donation of small, medium and large hooded sweatshirts.

In addition, LYAC members hope to visit/interact with the students in the spring to serve as positive aspiration role models.
