LEWISTON — Father Raymond L. Corriveau, O.P., 84, of 100 Campus Ave., Apt. 304, died Tuesday, March 1, at d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born in Fall River, Mass., Feb. 11, 1927, the son of Louis and Alphonsine Levesque Corriveau. Educated in Fall River schools, he entered the seminary of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, and received the habit of the Order of Preachers (Dominican Fathers) in 1950. He took his final vows in Ottawa in 1954, and on July 2, 1955, he was ordained to the priesthood in St. Anne’s Church in Fall River.
In 1968, he became the administrator and assistant director of St. Anne’s Shrine, and served there until 1971, when he became pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.
In 1978, he studied counseling at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. He was then appointed as chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, N.H., and became the USA Director of Pastoral Care. After 14 years of service in Nashua, he returned to Lewiston and was elected Prior of the local community of Dominican Friars.
In 1996, he became the chaplain of d’Youville Pavilion. He also served as a member of the Diocesan Board of Conciliation, was Director of Region 1 of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, and as a member of the National Council of the NACC.
He is survived by a brother, Florian Corriveau of Fall River, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased two brothers, George and Lucien Corriveau; and four sisters, Gabrielle Paquette, Mariette St. Pierre, Jeanne Desjardins and Diane Charest. Condolences may be expressed online at www.albert-burpee.com.
