ROXBURY — If voters approve all money items of the 73-article town meeting warrant Monday, they will adopt an annual budget similar to last year.
The annual town meeting begins at 6 p.m. March 7 at the Roxbury Town Hall. Snacks will be served at 5:30 p.m.
Tax Collector Rene Hodsdon said among the items to be decided are funding for a property revaluation and remapping at $10,000, and starting a revision of the town’s Comprehensive Plan at $5,000.
Estimates to conduct a revaluation have come in at about $50,000, she said. The cost for revising the Comprehensive Plan is about $15,000.
She said properties in the town are valued at 70 percent now. The town hopes to begin the revaluation process within a year or two. The last one was in 1994, the same year the town adopted a Comprehensive Plan.
Residents have been saving for both projects the last couple of years.
Voters will also act on an amended shoreland zoning ordinance, and elect a selectman.
Selectman John Sutton, a forester, is seeking his first, full, three-year term. He was elected two and a half years ago to finish the remaining term of Mark Touchette. Challenging Sutton is Cathy Matson, owner and operator of the Fryewood Farm. She has been active in opposing wind development in town.
Voters adopted a $445,366 municipal budget last March, with $261,067 coming from taxation. The current tax rate is $18.92 per $1,000 valuation. The municipal budget figure does not include Oxford County or school taxes.
Sutton said a new rate will likely be set a couple of weeks after the town meeting. Taxes will likely be due by Aug. 1. Voters will also decide whether to grant an 8 percent discount on all real estate and personal taxes if paid by Sept. 1. Those who pay such taxes after Oct. 31 will be subject to an annual interest rate of 7 percent.
