WATERFORD — Selectman Randy Lessard won election to a second term with 44 votes during Friday’s annual town election.

Barry Patrie was top vote-getter for a term on the Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors. He got 47 votes.

Road Commissioner Brad Grover garnered 45 votes to win re-election to his post.

The three candidates ran unopposed for office.

Selectman Lessard, who served as chairman of the board during the past year, said he intends to continue working to improve efficiency in government in order to keep the tax rate down.

To do that, Lessard said he sees a lot of opportunities, including computerizing the tax cards that would reduce the “hundreds of hours” now necessary to calculate tax bills for property owners.

“Once automated, we can do it in 15 minutes,” he said of the task.

Lessard said he is also looking at having town departments, such as the Highway Department, work with other towns to save money. For example, he said, this past year the department teamed with two other towns to save money on paving costs.

Lessard said he also see savings potential in others areas such as the transfer station.

Of the approximately 1,100 registered voters in Waterford, 49 cast ballots Friday, Town Clerk Brenda Bigonski said.
