Playoff rally and season awards

The Lewiston Maineiacs will not hold a complete awards banquet this season, citing a lack of funds to do so.

But the team does intend to reward its players for their accomplishments, and to reward the fans with a public appearance surrounding those awards.

The Maineiacs will be holding a playoff rally on March 23 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Lewiston.

In addition to the rally and the players being available for autographs and pictures, the 2010-11 team awards will be presented.

Those fans wanting to attend will have the option to have a meal or, if they prefer, they can attend to the rally and awards portion only. This option, the team said, will help make the awards ceremony affordable for everyone who wants to attend.

Setting the record straight

Etienne Brodeur did it, with time to spare.

The Lewiston Maineiacs’ 19-year-old forward, whose previous career high for goals scored in a season was 18, set a new Lewiston franchise record for goals in a single season with his 48th of this season in a 3-1 victory over Halifax on Thursday.

Brodeur, a former first-round pick of the Maineiacs in the QMJHL draft said in an interview with Halifax radio Thursday that while he’s not specifically gunning for 50, he acknowledges it would be a nice mark to hit.

“I just need to keep playing my game,” he told the station. “I’m shooting more, the goals will come.”

Personal best

Speaking of new marks, Michael Chaput, with a goal in that win over Halifax on Thursday, set a new personal best for points in a season with 56.

Chaput registered 55 points in 2009-10, with 28 goals and 27 assists.

This year, the speedy Columbus Blue Jackets prospect (he was traded last week from Philadelphia), has 23 goals and 33 helpers.
