In reference to the marijuana dispensaries trying to open in various locations (some have been approved) — why isn’t there something in writing (a law) that will prevent anyone under the age of 18 from being allowed to accompany their parents into such places?

In reference to passing a law about cleaning snow from vehicles before driving (a fine if caught) — how about the same law for big trucks? There is nothing more scary than having one of the big rigs pass and having your windshield suddenly covered with snow and ice that has fallen from a truck. Size of a vehicle shouldn’t matter. All should be treated equally.

In reference to a young couple that stand at some intersections (even in the snowstorm Feb. 25) with signs indicating that they are homeless, asking for help — has anyone taken the time to talk to them and see if they have fallen through the cracks in getting the help they need for food and housing? Some time ago, I remember there was a story about a man who was panhandling out near the Walmart entrance. It was found that he was from the Augusta area and as soon as the story came out in the newspaper, he was gone. He had been thrown out of other towns before trying Auburn. Why doesn’t someone see if there is any help for the young couple?

Editor’s note: According to Maine law, someone under the age of 18 years can be issued a certificate by a qualified doctor to use medical marijuana; no one under 18 years old may be employed in a medical marijuana dispensary. The bill proposed by Rep. Jane Knapp, R-Gorham, would apply to all motorists in cars or trucks. The proposed requirement to remove snow from the vehicle is not car-specific. Efforts have been made to speak with the couple you have seen in the Twin Cities, but they have declined interview requests to date.
