FARMINGTON — Eustis won the snowfall prize in this region in the latest storm with at least 16 ½ inches recorded by noon on Monday.

Rain, snow and sleet fell across northern Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties beginning on Sunday and continuing into Monday afternoon.

Trees and wires were reported to be knocked down in several areas around the region. There had been no major accidents as of 3 p.m.

Eustis had just over a half-inch of rain Sunday before it changed to snow at about 4 p.m., National Weather Service observer Betty Wing of Eustis said Monday.

It is still snowing, she said at midday.

Before Sunday’s storm, there was about 24 inches of settled snow on the ground, a lot diminished with rain and warmer temperatures. As of Monday, the amount increased to about 37 inches.

“It’s heavy snow,” Wing said.

No flooding was reported as of Monday morning in Franklin County, county Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Hardy said. The snow was absorbing the rain, acting like a sponge, he said.

Dennis Pike, a National Weather Service observer in Farmington, said his area had received  2.38 inches of precipitation. Slightly more than 2 inches of sleet had fallen, he said.

Livermore Falls received 2.49 inches of precipitation between Sunday and Monday morning, weather observer Harold Souther said.

He collected 2 inches of ice pellets.

The settled snow was 19 inches prior to Sunday’s storm and dropped to 13 inches, and then increased to 15 inches of settled snow and water.

“It’s been a wild storm,” Souther said.
