RUMFORD — Peter J. Perry, 83, of Penobscot Street died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 8, at Rumford Hospital.
He was born in Mexico a son of Antoine and Suzane (Bordage) Poirier.
Peter was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School. He was also a graduate of Colby College in Waterville.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Jean (Babb) on July 26, 1958; together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. She passed away on June 26, 2010.
Peter was self-employed as an insurance agent, real estate broker, and appraiser, and was currently on the Board of Assessors.
For many years, Peter owned and operated Perry’s Variety on Congress Street. Peter was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, where he served as a eucharistic minister.
He was a member of the Robert Shand Post 1641 VFW, the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, BPOE 832 Lodge of Elks, and the Blazing Star Lodge of Masons 30.
He enjoyed golfing and achieved a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his two daughters, Janet P. Leach of Greenland, N.H., and Nancy P. Letellier and husband, Kevin, of Saco; a brother, John Perry and wife, Rose, of Tamarac, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Jenifer Marie Horvath of Saco.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jean A. (Babb) Perry; and a son, Steven M. Perry.
