AUBURN — A man accused of setting a fire at a secondhand shop on Depot Street in Livermore Falls last month was indicted Wednesday by an Androscoggin County grand jury.

Scott Violette, 36, of Livermore Falls was indicted on a charge of arson in connection with the Feb. 16 fire that damaged the Treasure Chest.

Violette is already jailed on the charge. He was arrested by a State Fire Marshal’s investigator after he was questioned about the blaze.

Police said Violette lives in an apartment building on Depot Street, a short distance from the building he is accused of burning.

At the time of his arrest, he was on probation for a previous arson conviction from a 2003 fire in Norridgewock.

The Treasure Chest abuts the Chuck Wagon Restaurant in the same building.

On Feb. 16, about 45 firefighters from Livermore Falls, Jay, Livermore and Wilton responded to the early-morning call of a bucket on fire in the business entryway.

A Livermore Falls police officer and a firefighter arrived at the scene first and used extinguishers from a cruiser and the Town Office to knock down flames. The fire burned cedar shingles and got into the wooden overhang on the front of the building.

Officials estimated damage to the thrift store to be several thousand dollars.

Violette remains at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $15,000 bail.
