I realize that the Postal Service is going through rough times, just like the rest of society, but I am concerned about the talk around the many surrounding towns that carriers out of the Dixfield office are going to be moved up to the Rumford office.

What is going to happen after that?

I cannot imagine that the Dixfield Post Office would be kept open just for the postmaster.

Would the move be cost-efficient by just moving people around? It seems to me that expenses would be the same.

If the rumor is true, I would like to know if the move would benefit anyone and, if so, whom? Definitely not Dixfield.

I have been a resident of Dixfield for a long time and my concern is for myself, as well as for the elderly residents who walk to the Post Office several times a week to do their business.

I strongly feel that it would be the first step for the residents of Dixfield to lose their Post Office. I hope others who are as concerned about the issue as I am will help fight to keep what we have.

Editor’s note: According the U.S. Postal Service, a consolidation of services at the Dixfield office is being evaluated, but no recommendation or decision have yet been made.
