PARIS — Two Jay men pleaded guilty Wednesday in Oxford County Superior Court to theft, burglary and criminal mischief for stealing golf carts and crashing them at a country club last year.

Corey J. Towers, 20, and Todd Sullivan, 18, admitted breaking into a building at Oakdale Country Club in Mexico on the night of June 4 and again the night of June 5 to steal golf carts.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the two men damaged several golf carts and destroyed fencing at the club. On the second night, they drove golf carts to a nearby baseball diamond and crashed them into a fence and a dugout structure.

Total damage to the country club, including the golf carts, was $3,800. There was another $1,000 damage at the ball field, which is owned by the town of Mexico Recreation Department.

In the following days, several people came forward to the Mexico police to say the men had been bragging about taking the golf carts, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Towers and Sullivan each faced two Class C burglary charges, two Class C theft charges, two Class C aggravated criminal mischief charges and a Class D criminal mischief charge.

For their pleas, each received a two-year deferred disposition where each must pay $100 per month in restitution fees until they pay off the total of $4,800 owed to the Oakdale Country Club and the town of Mexico recreation department.

If each adheres to the conditions of the deferred disposition, after two years they will be permitted to plead guilty to two Class D thefts each. Each charge will carry a fine of $200.
