Remember back to the big trade that brought you to Lewiston in the first place. What do you remember about how that all went down?
I was just hanging out at home. I saw it on RDS, on TV. I called Patrick Roy and asked him if it was a rumor or if it was done. He said it was a done deal, that he was planning on telling me Monday, and it was Friday. The first thing I did, i talked to my father. I was a bit shocked, I didn’t expect it at all. But after that I thought about it. I saw Brodeur on the team, Chaput. I knew some of the guys. I was looking forward to it. They didn’t have the depth (on defense) that Quebec had, either, so I knew I would play a lot.
After getting your feet wet here in Lewiston, when did you first start to feel comfortable here, and with this team?
I think I felt comfortable right off the bat. The guys helped me a lot in the locker room to be a part of this team. It didn’t take long at all.
Now that you’ve gone through the process of being drafted to the NHL, looking back, how much did you pay attention to that possibility last season?
Looking at it now, probably too much, really. There was stuff online, and I was always reading it. I have to say it put a little pressure on me. But I think that’s normal. When I think back on it, maybe I shouldn’t have thought about it as much as I did and just play my games. But overall, I think it went pretty well anyway.
Having been drafted, you had the opportunity to go to the Washington Capitals’ NHL camp this year. How was that experience for you?
It’s a great experience. I looked at the guys, how they worked, how they do things and try to transfer that to my game and bring that back to juniors.
You’ve always been kind of an offensive defenseman, but you’ve really put up some points this year. When did you finally feel comfortable, this year or in the past, with that role?
I always seem to step up and play better after Christmas. I did the same this year. Last year, i wasn’t at a point per game, but almost, and this year is the same thing.
