BATH — Roland Rivard, 87, of Rumford, died Sunday, March 6, at the Thomas G. Plant Memorial Home in Bath.

He was born in Rumford on Feb. 9, 1924, to Majorique and Josephine (Arsenault) Rivard.

Roland was employed as a sales representative for many years and retired as district sales manager for Hillyard, Inc. in 1983. Upon retirement he and his wife, Phyllis, moved to Vero Beach, Fla., where they resided until the fall of 2005, when they returned to Maine.

During his children’s youth, Roland volunteered as starter for many ski races as a member of Chisholm Ski Club. He enjoyed skiing and playing golf and was an avid and skilled cribbage player teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. Roland was most proud of his four children graduating from college.

Roland was a member of the Rumford Lodge No. 862, B.P.O.E.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Phyllis; sons, Raymond Gary and his wife, Margaret, and Richard and his partner, Kim Girard; daughters, Patricia Walchli and her husband, John, and Peggy Walsh and her husband, David; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Roland was predeceased by brothers, Leo, Raymond, Robert, Paul and John Rivard; and sisters, Irene Rivard, Muriel Mildram and Anita Huff.
