I am responding to the letter by Bert Laplante, published March 5, stating that unions must go.

What a novel idea — in order to reclaim those jobs lost overseas, perhaps we should eliminate all benefits and lower wages to $4 per hour. Sure, after taxes, people would have to decide whether to use their pay to buy a gallon of gas, heating oil or milk but, hey, if it works overseas, why not here?

Better yet, if we are truly committed to taking those jobs back, we should really consider bringing back slavery.
