Recently, I witnessed two drivers who were obviously texting while driving on busy streets. The first, a young woman, was driving on Lisbon Street, her head and eyes looking down at the cellular phone in her hand.
Later that same day, another woman, driving slower than other traffic, was also obviously texting.
I wonder if it is right, as individuals, to call 911 and report such sightings? I would think the parents of that first young woman would want to know about her driving habits. Or, how about a new “Guess who I saw texting while driving?” column in the Sun Journal, with a description of the car and driver and license plate number?
Laws and warnings are not working, just as they did not for using seat belts.
I guess you have to fine violators high enough to get their attention.
Someone’s death is the alternative. Those two women have their whole lives ahead of them, to be and to talk . . . if they don’t text and drive.
