PARIS — Angelo R. Valeriani, 96, of Hebron passed away Friday, March 11, at the Maine Veterans Home in the presence of family.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 3, 1914, the son of Paulo and Palmira Fornari Valeriani. For a short time while he was a youngster, the family lived in Marcellinara, Italy. He attended St. Catherine’s school in Boston.

He faithfully served his country as a sergeant in the Army during World War II, stationed in Greenland in the Quartermaster Corps. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, one Service Stripe and three Overseas Service Bars.

After the war he worked as a printer and postal worker in Boston, furniture salesman for Bergner’s in Peoria, Ill., truck driver for Caterpillar Corp., and line foreman/safety committee chair for Malden Mills in Lawrence, where he worked most of his adult life. He was a member of the AMVETS, the VFW, the Cooties, 40 and 8, and the Moose Lodge, and had helped start Bradford Post 675, where he had been past commander and a charter member. He lived most of his life in Bradford, Mass., before moving to Hebron.

He is survived by his son, Gino and his wife, Patricia, of Hebron; grandsons, Delian of Hebron and Peary, currently serving with the Army in Iraq, and his wife, Jillianne; a great grandson, Dominic; a brother, Robert of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, Donna Foley, Paul Sorbello, Theresa Valeriani, Cynthia Turner and Audrey Valeriani.

He was predeceased by his wife. Dorothy; a daughter, Sister Janis Matthews; two brothers, Anthony and Nicholas; two sisters, Domenica and Lena; and a niece Roberta. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
