FARMINGTON – A Canadian man pleaded guilty to two drug charges Monday after he was arrested Sunday at the border in Coburn Gore, according to court documents.
Chesley E. Skinner, 45, of Kentville, Nova Scotia, was arrested on four drug charges but two were dismissed by the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.
He pleaded guilty in Farmington District Court to two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, namely Ecstasy and cocaine. Two counts of the same charge were dismissed for possession of psilocybin mushrooms and hash.
Judge Valerie Stanfill found Skinner guilty and ordered him to pay a $500 fine for each of the two counts.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Chase was called up to the port of entry from Canada to Maine in Coburn Court early Sunday morning for a person who was in custody. Customs agents had detained Skinner after finding drugs in his possession after a motor vehicle search, according to Chase’s affidavit filed with the court.
A search of Skinner’s vehicle revealed a small amount of cocaine, 17 tablets of Ecstasy, 28.5 grams of hash and 7.8 grams of psilocybin, a digital scale and roach clips, county Chief Deputy Raymond Meldrum said, according to a police report.
Skinner told police he had gotten lost in Canada bringing his wife to a new home in Ontario and ended up at the Coburn Gore border entry, Meldrum said.
After Chase read Skinner his Miranda rights, he did waive them, the affidavit states.
“He admitted that he knew the hash, cocaine, mushrooms and (Ecstasy) were in his vehicle,” Chase wrote.
