MECHANIC FALLS — A utility pole was snapped off Monday evening when a Bridgton man lost control of his car on Route 121 at the intersection with North Street, police said.
Bryan Smith, 23, refused medical attention after the 6:15 p.m. crash, Mechanic Falls police officer James Avery said.
John Straight, a Mechanic Falls resident, who ran to the scene after hearing a loud crash, said the driver said he was just getting out of work and heading home when he lost control of the car on a slight curve and may have overcorrected to stay on the road.
The road was closed for more than three hours while utility crews replaced the pole.
Smith’s car was demolished, Avery said.
