PARIS — Montana Mawhinney of Paris, a senior at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, has been selected to receive the 2011 Principal’s Award, Principal Ted Moccia said.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Moccia said Mawhinney has distinguished herself in the classroom, on the athletic field and as a leader in the school throughout her years at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

“She exemplifies what we want an OHCHS student to be,” Moccia said. “Her actions, high academic achievement and work ethic over the course of her high school career make her a very deserving recipient.”

Montana and Moccia, who was recently named principal of the year by the Maine Principals’ Association, and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on April 2.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes the outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 130 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
