PERU — Bill Hine presented selectmen with a revised draft proposal Monday night on the conservation commission to be placed on the June town warrant if approved by selectmen and the Planning Board

Selectman Chairman Lauriann Milligan said that she remembered the Planning Board had problems with the original proposal because of the language.

Hine replied that the word ordinance in the original was a stumbling block, though he said he hesitated to speak for the board as no others were present.

Selectman Rick Vaughn said it still sounded like the board would be telling people what to do with their land.

Hine replied that he didn’t see any regulation in the proposal.

“We won’t dictate,” he said.

Milligan said it looked to her like it would be a fact-finding mission to find out what resources the town had.

Hine said that any restrictions would require a town ordinance and vote by the town.

Milligan said that in the long term it could only progress as the voters allow.

She asked Hine if the full Planning Board had seen the revision. Hine replied that he had e-mailed it to three members.

The town would be asked to approve the formation of the commission with seven members appointed by selectmen to serve without pay. The commission would submit a report compiling information pertinent to the proper utilization, protection and potential development or use of all open areas in the town.

In other news, the board approved sending a check for $48,000 for the plow truck the town is buying through lease purchase. The town approved the purchase at the last annual town meeting and if the voters approve the final payment at this year’s meeting, the truck can be purchased for a dollar. The total cost of the truck is $134,000 plus interest.

Nomination papers are available for two three-year terms for selectmen, one three-year term for road commissioner and one three-year term for fire chief.
