FARMINGTON — Finding a lost lucky leprechaun in downtown Farmington businesses marked with a green shamrock on their door or window can mean savings or a prize for community members.

The Farmington Downtown Association will host the event, the Lost Lucky Leprechaun, from St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday through Saturday. Businesses are offering either a store discount or a prize, Beth Beaudoin from the association’s promotion committee said.

The leprechaun will be partially hidden in each of the participating businesses. A listing of the businesses and what they are offering is available at www.downtownfarmington.com.

The event offers a special twist for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life team members.

Once the leprechaun is found by a team member, they will also be given a gold coin. They can then take the coin to the Homestead Bakery on Broadway to place in the leprechaun’s Pot of Gold. The coins will be logged according to team, and the team with the most coins wins $100 for their team. The team with the second highest amount of gold coins wins $50 for the team, while the third-place team takes $25.

Relay For Life teams participate in fundraising events working up to the June event.

Each business will post the association’s green shamrock on their door or window to indicate they are participating, Beaudoin said.

In some businesses, those finding the leprechaun will receive a percentage off the cost of their purchases. Other businesses will offer drawings for gift certificates.
