AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine’s Franco-American community is being recognized as the state celebrates Franco-American Day.
Festivities at the state capitol Wednesday include a Franco-American breakfast menu at the cafeteria, historical and cultural exhibits, and performances of French music.
U.S., Canadian and French national anthems will be sung in the House and Senate, where legislators will recognize Franco-Americans and the Franco-American Veterans Post 31 in Lewiston will present the colors.
Gov. Paul LePage, dignitaries representing Quebec, Canada, Switzerland and France, along with members of the Legislatures’ Franco-American Caucus will hold a conference in the Hall of Flags to honor the 2011 inductees into Maine’s Franco-American Hall of Fame.
LePage is Maine’s first elected Franco-American governor.
