Jenny Cowie, left, volunteer and interpreter services coordinator for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, shows Karen Jones of Phippsburg what these daffodils looked like before they opened. Cowie delivered a “gift of hope” to Jones as she underwent her second-to-last chemotherapy treatment for Stage 4 lung and brain cancer Wednesday at the hospital. “This is a spot of brightness today,” Jones said. This week is Daffodils Days for the American Cancer Society. A bunch of flowers can be purchased in the lobby of St. Mary’s for $10, a pot of flowers for $15. A gift of hope is an anonymous purchase of a bunch that will then be delivered to a cancer patient within the hospital. All money raised will help fund the programs and services provided by the American Cancer Society, such as transportation to appointments, the Look Good/Feel Better program and volunteer training.
