AUBURN — Stephen A. Martin, 68, of Maynard Drive, Topsham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, at Auburn Hospice House surrounded by the love of his life, wife, Janet and family.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1943, in Portland, a son of Antone “Tony” and Dorothy Martin. Steve grew up in Lisbon Falls and was a graduate of Lisbon High School. Steve served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On May 3, 1971, he married Janet A. Finley, and would have been married 40 years in May. Steve worked at Bowdoin College for more than 16 years and retired in 2009, due to his health.
He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, All Saint’s Parish and a member of the Coombs-Mountfort American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon, and VFW Post 9459.
Steve loved fishing and clamming, but his greatest love other than his wife, was his love and deep faith in Jesus.
Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Janet Martin of Topsham; two children, John Martin and his wife, Kim, of Chebeague Island and Cynthia Thibeault and her husband, Kevin, of Brunswick; a brother, Albert Martin and his wife, Doris, of Lisbon Falls; a sister, Betty Jane Garnett and husband, David, of Lisbon; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; an aunt, Emily Caron and her husband, Leo, of California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
