JAY — Regional School Unit 36 Superintendent Sue Pratt presented a concept proposal for organizational management of the new RSU 73 recently. About 100 people attended.

Pratt used a metaphor of flock of geese flying in formation to present the RSU 73 district/administrative related chart for personnel.

“I think we need to create a system so each of us can fly a little easier,” she said during a meeting March 15. “We’re grappling with all the components that need to be done.”

“Picture this as a puzzle … until we start nailing down some answers,” she said.

The current concept of positions to consider is to have one superintendent, one assistant superintendent and one district administrative support/curriculum clerical support. The concept for the central office staff will also include a business manager, and payroll and account payables clerks.

Both Pratt and Jay Superintendent Bob Wall have contracts with the individual school systems they currently serve through June 30, 2012.

The concept calls for a special services director and a half-time assistant special services director.

Under transportation and maintenance, there would be one transportation/maintenance director, part-time positions of maintenance assistant, and two transportation assistants.

At the north campus in Jay, one principal and assistant principal/athletic director are proposed. The south campus in Livermore Falls would have a high school principal and assistant principal.

However, it is still unknown if that would be the administrative structure, since it will depend on varying factors, Pratt said.

There could be a total of one principal with two assistant principals for the high schools , Jay Superintendent Bob Wall said. It all depends on decisions, he said.

The proposal is to have the administrative structure match the configuration based on what decisions are made, Jay Superintendent Bob Wall said. If there is a Freshman Academy at one high school, the administrative staffing recommendations may be different, he said.

The RSU 36 Board of Directors and Jay School Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Jay Middle School cafeteria to decide whether there will be a Freshman Academy. They also will make decisions on whether there will be combined or separate sports teams for the high schools in year one of consolidation.

The boards are meeting at the same time, same place but will take action as separate boards.

There would be one principal each at Jay Elementary School and Livermore Elementary School.

The concept also includes a half-time assistant principal at the Livermore school.

The size of the Livermore school warrants a part-time principal, Pratt said.

There is also a proposal to move some special education programs to the Livermore school, Wall said.
