PARIS — A chimney fire on High Street Monday morning was quickly snuffed out by firefighters.

No injuries were reported and no damage occurred to the house.

Firefighters from Paris and Norway, who arrived at the scene to see heavy smoke coming from the chimney, set up the Paris 75-foot ladder truck to access the chimney.

The fire was called in at 11:25 a.m. by an occupant of the house at 444 High St., which is owned by Albert Holden.

“It went good,” Fire Chief Brad Frost said. He added that his department is averaging about one fire call a day this winter.

Frost said “bombs” were dropped into the chimney with fire retardant material in them to snuff out any hot spots. In this case, several were used. The fire chief said it appears the chimney had not been cleaned in a while

The chimney fire started shortly before students at the nearby Paris Elementary School were set to be released from school early because of incoming snow.
