AUBURN — Lillian Mathy Frost Glazier passed into peace on the first day of spring, March 20, at the Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Lillian Glazier was born on March 26, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of six children to Jacob and Bertha Mathy. Lillian grew up in Grandview, Ohio, was a graduate of Ohio State University, and while going to college, worked in the public library in Grandview. During World War II, she worked as the librarian for the USO in Atlantic City, where she met her first husband, James Glynn Frost of Eastport.
Lillian married Glynn, at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 1944. They first moved to Eastport after Glynn finished law school at Ohio State, and then settled in Gardiner. Glynn died in 1961. On Dec. 6, 1968, Lillian married Lucien “Skip” Glazier.
Lillian worked for Gardiner office of the Red Cross, eight years as coordinator of the Maine State Head Start and also developed a state-wide Dental Health Education Program.
After retiring from the state, Lillian spent many years living in Port Charlotte, Fla., in the winter and on Great Pond, Belgrade Lakes, in the summer. She so loved living on Great Pond, in a camp that Skip built. She spent several summers working at the Brass Knocker in Belgrade Lakes.
She was a prolific reader and student of history. She loved writing poetry, researching genealogy and spending time with her family. Lillian was an avid sports fan, closely following the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Ohio State Buckeye football team.
