AUBURN — Community Little Theatre will hold auditions on Sunday and Monday, April 3-4, at Great Falls Performing Arts Center for “Wait Until Dark,” its June production.
Auditions for the classic thriller by Frederick Knott will be at 6 p.m. both days.
The show’s director, Vincent Ratsavong, a familiar face at CLT, has also scheduled a table reading for 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, also at the arts center on Academy Street. This, he said, is for people who are unsure about whether they want to audition and just want to learn more about the show.
The show has two female and six male roles. Susy Hendrix, played by Lee Remick in the 1966 Broadway version and Audrey Hepburn in the 1967 movie, is the blind heroine of the story. “This is a very demanding role,” Ratsavong said. Anyone trying out for this role should be familiar with the script, copies of which are available at the CLT box office.
The other female roles are Gloria, a young girl who is the blind woman’s neighbor. The girl is generally 9 to 12 years old; however, girls of any age are encouraged to audition.
The male roles include Sam Hendrix, the heroine’s husband; Harry Roat, leader of the villain gang, who also plays his own son; Mike Talman, a bad guy with a heart; Carlino, Mike’s accomplice; and two police officers, small roles that are nonetheless vital to the plot.
“Wait Until Dark” will open on June 17 at Bates College’s Schaeffer Theatre.
