Monmouth Federal Credit Union’s Rebecca Prestride, above, holds a certificate for her credit union for finishing second in per-member contributions in the 2010 Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. Presenting the certificate were, from left, John Murphy, president of the Maine Credit Union League, Luke Labbe, chairman of the Maine Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee, and NBA Hall-of-Famer Rick Barry. Maine’s credit unions raised $402,740, an increase of nearly $27,000 over last year’s record. The funds will enable food pantries across Maine to purchase nearly $5 million worth of food through the Good Shepherd Food-Bank. Two other local credit unions were recognized for placing in the top 10 in total funds raised or highest per member contribution. They were Monmouth FCU (second in per member contributions) and Five County CU (eighth in total funds raised). All credit unions in the Lewiston-Auburn area participated.
