RUMFORD — Erin Milligan of Rumford, daughter of Sherry Milligan and the late Michael Milligan, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, has been selected to receive the 2011 Principal’s Award, Principal Matthew Gilbert announced recently. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Throughout her academic career, Erin has always persevered and challenged herself to excel. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on Student Council for the past four years. She has participated in Relay for Life since she was six. Erin also has done other community service activities through the River Valley Interact Club. She has been taking dance classes since she was very young, including ballet, lyrical jazz and tap. She is currently choosing a college to attend and is unsure on what she wants to major in.

Erin and the other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.

The luncheon recognizes these students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the association.
