LIVERMORE FALLS — The Jay-Livermore Falls Seniors met March 13 at Murray Hall with 33 members present. The treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were read and accepted.
Representatives from the Insurance Division for the state will visit the group on Monday, March 28. They will speak for 45 minutes about the changes in Medicare, Medicaid and other changes to insurance benefits for seniors. Anyone from the Jay-Livermore Falls area is invited. The representatives will be available to answer questions after the meeting.
Chairwoman Shirley Couture welcomed the group back after a two week absence. She reported the farm share program is available again this year at the cost of $50 for fresh vegetables during the summer month. Call 800-427-1241 for more information about the farms in the area.
Lois Gordon was reported on the sick list. Shirley also reported that Charles and Marie Lapointe lost their son to cancer recently in Spokane, Wash.
Representatives of SeniorsPlus visited LaFleur’s Restaurant on March 15 to announce the new Senior Plus meals now available at the restaurant.
On March 16, a Franco-American celebration was held at the State House in Augusta, featuring displays, music and induction of citizens to the Franco-American Hall of Fame.
A benefit supper and dance was planned for March 19 for the Van Blacom family who were burned out of their home earlier this month.
Francis Therrien and Eugene Pomerleau were reminded that since they won the Easter baskets last year they must refill them and return them for the raffle this year.
Gloria Bickford won the 50/50 this week.
Jeanne Williams, Blanche Bilodeau, George Doiron and Lorette Chabot won the door prizes donated by Ellie Mitchell, Marie Gagnon, Marilyn DeSoto and Carmen Moreau.
Following the adjournment, refreshments donated by Carmen Moreau, Diane Getz, Geraldine Richard, Nancy Couture and Fernande Doiron were served. Pat Couture and Alice Demoras volunteered to be the refreshment committee next week.
The rest of the afternoon, all present enjoyed cards and games.
