LUDLOW, Vt. — Sam Morse and Czari Cochrane of Carrabassett Valley Academy were victorious in their brackets the J3 Eastern Championships (formerly J3 Junior Olympics)  at Okemo Mountain Resort.

Morse earned a fourth-place finish in slalom, first in giant slalom, first in super G, and first overall. Cochrane was fifth in slalom, first in giant slalom, ninth in super G, and second overall.

“Czari and Sam both won their victories by skiing with complete confidence, inspiration and utter fearlessness,” said CVA J3 coach, Chip Cochrane. “They put their skis in the fall line and attacked the courses. I am extremely proud of Sam and Czari and commend their season-long efforts to step up and get the job done when it really counted.”

The performances at the Eastern Championships earned both skiers a spot in the Whistler Cup series in April in British Columbia. They will be part of a team of 18 athletes representing the United States. The field will include the best 13-14 year old skiers in the world. This group of athletes is tracked by the NDS (National Development System) and invited to training camps and national projects throughout the year to keep them on track toward eventually making the U.S. Ski Team.
